Hello Everyone. is there a book on the market on how to restore the computer? (96C)
I got everything freed up but I wanted to take the wheels of to paint them. Plus the top number don't move when the bottoms do from the bottom crank. But the top and bottom move with top crank.

Not that I know of. Take your time, take it apart, put it back together and give us all the details in a "how to" post.

I looked at the compooter in my pump, and had a flashback to the time when I was eight, and decided to fix my wind up clock. I decided to use WD-40 to loosen everything up. A lot of spray, a little turning, more spray. Then I cleaned it up with Simple Green. Call me chicken!!!!

I have copies of the original service manual for sale for $10. This manual details everything you need to know for the repair of your computer. I also have New Old Stock number wheel sets available for $50. Buy a set and I include the manual free. This is really the only way to go considering the time it would take to repaint each wheel. Nothing looks as good as the factory original.

I saw a box of the new number wheels at Front Range Gas. Really reasonably priced. I talked to the guy, to remain nameless, that builds lots of pumps here in Colrado. He told me that you will only try to replace wheels once. It seems that there are lots of little pot metal pins that you will fight with and lose. I have always had good luck with wd40 or anything like it to free things up. If you watch and buy the veedor root computers without the recessed numbers all you have to buy is the new tape to cover the wheels JMTCW Larry

I have the whole computer loose and working great, now all I have to do is take care of the number. I got lucky, this pump was installed inside a barn. It never really got wet. The od part is the outer panels were still rusty but the insides looked great. I'm painting the panels now so next week I'll get hot and heavy on the computer.

Be sure to mark alignment points on the side gears if you decide to remove the blinders to paint.

All 12 of the computer wheels and a set of the price wheels(6) are included. The first computer I replaced the wheels in took about an hour and a half. The pins are easy to remove as long as you have a good set of punches and know how to use them. First use a small taper punch to start the pin moving then use a pin punch to drive out. Most people try to drive pins out by first using a pin punch and the only thing you will accomplish is bending and breaking the punch. As long as you can comprehend what you are reading the manual will walk you right thru it. I always had the attitude that if somebody else could do it then I could too. Thunder, I got a big laugh out of your reply, been there done that.

The lower gear set(gallons) & upper gear set(dollars) will run independant of each other. There should be a vertical gear shaft directly above the horizontal gear box, running inside the pricing geaarbox, that ties the gallons & dollars together. The horizontal gear box is the round drum under the pricing computer. Clear as mud, I'm sure.... This is like doing mail order braain surgery so drop me an "e" if you need any more confusion.

Taking it apart was a breeze, How the hell do I get it back together. I can't get the number to turn in sink, I did just one set so far to try it out. I geuss I could just get the decals and put them over top of the numbers,, Just Kidding. I'll figure it out. Thunder, What did you say your number was???
