Can anyone tell me what type of paint i need to use for a flat ad glass panel so that it shows well with a light bulb behind it...do i need to bake the paint on???...or can i bake the paint on??? thanks in advance for any info....mm

I'm not an expert, but I spayed the same base coat orange I used on my wayne 60 pump skins and then just flipped the add glass so the non-painted side was facing out. Light shines through it great. Hope it helps. ~Jason

Good info Polly Man! If one wanted to experiment a little and found that the straight basecoat didn't let enough light through, try mixing some basecoat (color) with clear and try that.

Sign shops use a laquer based paint for the plastic sign panels. If you just want to spray the background color, get a rattle can of the color [in laquer] you want and spray it. [also a coat of white laquer over the color will distribute the light] Flip the glass over and apply the decal. In your case put a light behind your glass and spray light coats and watch how the light is shining thru.

I like the effects of frosted glass. I used this on my Bowser 575 HD pump and my A38 National pump. A local glass shop can lightly sandblast the inner surface for you. This process enhances available light through it. I then put a translucent decal on the outer side. A sign making shop can make these for you.

The best that I have found if you are going to paint over vinyl decals is a spray paint called fusion, it is for painting plastic outdoor childrens toys so it will not curl up the decals if you are making custom ad glass. Light shines really well through it.
Not sure if this is what you are trying to do, but it is a little trick that we found.

I put reverse decals on the glass and then use rattle can white primer. Works great. Everything is on the inside and cant get scratched, light shines through very nicley.

I've been using the paint we sell to sign companies for the backside of lightup signs.
I didn't realize so many others were making thier own ad glasses and globes. I'll add it to our website.

Ive got a follow up question. Ive got a red ripple globe with a faded out bottom area. What kind of paint did they use to paint these that held up so well. It appears to be baked / fired on. Cheese? anyone? can it be repaired? I would like to give it a try. Thanx...Les
