I have a A.O. Smith 483 48" pump that I was thinking about putting a globe on. I have seen these with globes but was wondering if they had globes on them when they were in use? Mine doesn't have a place for a globe so I guess I would just have to set it on top and hope it didn't fall off. I almost think it looks to short for a 15" globe. Any ideas? Mine was made in 1963. To the best of my knowledge - these 'short' pumps were used on farms and at refueling stations, not at retail stations. Therefore, they did not come with a globe or provisions for a globe.

However, you can always mount a globe ring on the top and run a light up thru a drilled hole to make one work.

Is the A.O. Smith 483 the same as an Erie 483? I know those companies were afiliated.
If they're the same pump they were indeed used at retail stations. I haven't seen one with a globe mount, but you should be able to add one without too much trouble.
A 15" globe would be way to big for that little pump. A 13 1/2" globe would look OK on it. A 12 1/2" globe would look great on it.

The A.O smith is the same but, A.O smith bought out Erie about the time when they made theses pumps so they are pretty much the same. I am doing 2 myself right now.They are really fun and easy to restore.

Dustin, are you going to have globes on the two you are restoring? And where can you find 12.5" globes? Vic's? Thanks, Dean

Iam not going to put a globe on mine,im doing mine in IH and john deer.I also have a extra frame and face plate ( if you need them e-mail me to work something out).I will be selling these at the peotone show in october for $750 each o.b.o
