I broke my first ten gallon glass cylinder Monday. I have taken four visible pumps apart to restore so I know the procedure pretty well and I was being SUPER careful but that dude 'popped' sure as heck. What a sickening sound!! I had already loosened the cylinder rods and had the top jar lid off. I had dribbled a little muriatic acid on the letharge and had a sewing machine screwdriver CAREFULLY and lightly scraping the stuff out when I heard the dreaded POP.

I know that even Scott Anderson has had a few crack on him and he's a pro, but the pain is still there!!!

Lesson: Never leave a loaded handgun in your shop because the urge to go postal on the next guy that walks in the door is very great!!

I hear ya man. I did the same thing to an original Fry 117 cylinder that was already sold. I bought a blue cylinder and wanted to recover some of the big $$$$ I spent. Didn't your heart skip a beat or two. Sorry to the guy up Northeast, it was a beauty. Oh well, I still got it. If I ever see a nice 117 missing the glass I'll snag it up and put the crack towards the wall.

Buy a windshield repair kit at your local auto parts store. Tape off the inside of crack and most of outside [to stop air from getting in], use as directed. Clean up excess with a razor blade. WORKS GREAT ON ROCK/BB HOLES.

Those ones hurt! I just picked up an early 10 gallon visible attachment for a previsible pump and the cyl had a crack all the way around the bottom about 1" up. I took it apart and the crack was very wayvy, anywhere from a half inch to an inch up. I took it to my glass guy and he sawed it straight around so i can still use it by shortening my rods an inch. It was originally 23" x 13" exactly. I never saw that size before. The glass guy was nervous cutting it but this was the second one he's done for me and im 2 for 2........Les

Yeah, I hear ya. The letharge plaster mix was the toughest I have ever run across. It was like trying to scratch a hole in your driveway with a screwdriver. I managed to bust the whole thing up trying to salvage some of it (glass cylinder) but I see there is no way in heck that dude was ever coming out in one piece. I even thought of trying to use a real small cutting blade on a moto-tool to get thru it. Anybody out there have any luck doing this?? Would it generate too much heat for the glass??
