Looking for advice on what's common practice for restoring the nameplates that say 'Tokheim' on them for a 36B.

They appear to be plated aluminum but I am unsure. The plating is pitted and flaked off. Obviously will not take a shine with the buffer like the other all aluminum parts that are not plated.

Do most folks just replace them with repo's? I realize I could paint them but am looking for the original look of 'shine'.

Any help from the pros would be appreciated.

Dan H

Just order new ones from one of the catalogs. They look identical to the originals.

To clarify,

I am referring to the front nameplates above the computer face, not the ID tag. They are just like the inspection door plates but have the 'Tokheim' name cast in them.

I do not use repo parts if I can help it. I have some of the 36B nameplates you are talking about and I am going to have mine sent in to be replated. Repo parts are OK and are cheaper if you are replating but it is what you prefer and want to spend.

thing about these is they are usually dented up,and kinda hard to get real straight(embossing),unless you really know how to work metal.not sure but i think when they plate they do straighten them out,but cant say how well.using original is fine, but just more costly than buying repros.your decision

Mick is right on them being damaged alot. Mine are reasonably good after I banged on them for a whale. If they are to bad you will have to find a good original or go the repo route.
