Stamps and coins when I was around 12.
Started cutting out every picture of an old car I could find.
Purchased my first antique car in 1959 after I got out of the Army.
Really got into Model Ts, help start the Model T Ford Car club here in St. Louis. My idea, and I was the first chairman of the Model T Ford Swap Meet, now the longest running swap meet in the mid-west. Bought every piece of T literature I could find.
Got heavy into VWs in the 70s, at one time I owned three split-windows. Bought every piece of VW literature I could find.
Always wanted a gas pump. First pump was a St. Louis visible, cleaned out my first bulk plant around 1978.
Sold my VW literature collection and used the money to purchase 100 gas pump from one bulk plant. Bought every piece of gas pump literature I could find.
Missed the first Iowa Gas, but did attend the 2nd, and almost every one since. Attended the second CTO Convention and have never missed one since then. Started setting up at shows to sell petro items, by the late 90s I was doing 20-22 shows per year.
Always expected Scott Anderson to write another book, but when there wasn't anyone writing a gas pump book I decided to write the book around 2001.
Been mostly a finder and seller, but have had some large collections. Had over 600 different handy oilers at one time.
The rest is history, now almost 76, and after two heart attacks I have decided to slow down. Will always go to Iowa & Columbus every year, and I try to make it to Columbia, MO if the weather isn't bad.
Look for the guy wearing the Korean War Veteran hat.
