Wow.....did any of you guys get out-bid at the sale this past weekend in Indianapolis?? There were sure a lot of really neat signs; first class stuff. Unfortunately my garage didn't get any off the ones I was after. These guys were serious!! Still had fun bring it on!!!!

Everyone that bid, got outbid on something. I saw some real heavy hitters shaking their heads in disbelief.
I was able to buy one sign. I was the back up bidder on several pieces. Coulda shoulda gone a few more rounds on a couple of pieces. Had a great time hanging out with friends even if I only got one sign.

I really enjoyed Ron's pics and report...after the "sticker shock" of some of the prices! Some killer signs though. I bet there was a Republican Convention nearby! LOL

Truely amazing! It was certainly fun just to watch and see in person some signs that you might never get to see or touch again. I ended up buying back a sign that I sold Gary several years ago. And yes, I did have to pay more than I sold it for.

Now just an interesting observation. I live in the area and know alot of petro/antique collectors and dealers from around central Indiana. You know what? They were NOT there. Did they not know about this extremely well advertised sale? Did they not have time to attend? Were they just not interested in some of the best signs to hit the market all at one time? Did they just think it would be a waste of their time to attend because of the likely possibilty that prices would be thru the roof and they would not have a chance on a limited budget?. I think I pretty much nailed most of the reasons.

For the most part of the sale I would guess that there were less than 150 people in attendance. But it only takes two! Just some random thoughts but I really would have expected to see more local people.
One last thought. I am not sure I can agree with Ron on the bar being set higher for the year but I sure don't see it going the other way either.

Ok, then who are these people who came come out and drive the prices of the signs up. Are they members of this forum? It almost sounds as if there is a group of guys somewhere that only come out to big auctions, buy the best items, drive up the price on the rest then retreat back to their secret collections in a dark fortress or something. But seroiusly, I've often wondered how one can get themselves in the postion to just be able to bid on top quality stuff and not be concerned about the price.

I know their were tons of awesome pieces at this auction. I was interested if anyone remembers how much the Imperial Refineries 30" porcelain circle went for????

I was in the process of moving and totally forgot about this sign it is the only one I have ever seen.
