Well my first job in '67 was at a gas station. Anybody remember gas wars? they were common back then and I pumped a lot of gas for 18 or 19 cents/gallon. At the time I was making $1.25 per hour and I could fill up the '63 Chevy belair for $4.00.
Now that $4.00 hardly fills up the lawn tractor. Today? $1.69- $1.173

Good news all you guys out there! I was watching CNN and all the evidence points to a VERY high probability that gas could shoot to up to $3.00 per gallon this summer! A far cry even for me who started paying 1.09 in 1997 when I WAS 16. makes me glad I own a Honda!. Not the best car for picking up a pump or other petro items but a life saver at the pump.

38.9 cents for real ethyl when I started driving. Good stuff white pump Chevron . $2.05 cheapest crud gas around here yesterday. Ted

So Cal is getting screwed... paid $2.09 for regular unleaded the other day. I think it is up to $2.13 now

Gas was 32.9 cents when I got my license in 1969. I took a drive to Fargo, ND and there was a gas war going on ... gas was 19.9 cents!!! Yesterday I paid $1.69.

I filled up last night for 1.55, two hours later I drove past the same station and it was 1.79.

Hi Gas was about 24.9 in 1954 when I started driving- almost as long as jack-My first street car was a 49 ford- with 1952 Caddy Engine- one of the first engine Conversions in town- and state- gas is still about 1.55 to 1.59 for reg- Take a look at my latest find in Showcase and stories-thanks don

Heck guys, I'm so old that when I first started driving there weren't gas powered cars, I had a Fred Flintstone car that was foot propelled. I can tell you what a pair of Converse tennis shoes cost when I started driving in the stone age. LOL!!

42 cents at Clark back in 1973, $1.57 at Speedway the other night, $1.83 elsewhere in the south suburbs of Chicago.

1979 i think i filled up my 66 chevelle at .70 a gal!? but just an hour ago i filled up my truck at 1.66 per gal.
i dont want gas to rise! i like gas guzzling V8s. i want 1/2 the people on the road to get electric cars & i want the fuel prices to drop to 1.00 per gal! thats what i want!!!!!

what else id like to see are Harley Davidsons with 2 BIG catalytic converters on them LOL!!!!!!! --- i wonder if dragsters will someday have 8 big ol converters pointing up in the air!?!

tom2tone, I know your joking (I hope), buts lets not give the EPA & other groups like them any ideas, I'm happy with my Harley & its straight pipes (loud pipes saves), all those groups do is look for something that needs to be saved (in their opinion). Next they might want to start recycling old metal & glass

The 'American Garage' is correct on the economics of it all. Course we have all heard about the prices in Europe for years. We need to get away from oil anyway and stop funding the radical Islamists in the Mid East that want to kill us satan Americans. Better things are coming around the corner for us in the way of hydrogen, alcohol, etc. to fuel our cars. And lastly, admit it, ALL of us waste gasoline daily so maybe we need to just keep our keesters at home a little more often and not rip and run so much like we all do.

Midway, you're no fun. I'm 24. I missed out on a lot of the fun too. Rockabilly road culture appeals to me greatly. But I can't afford a '40 ford, let alone a '50s rat rod. I've resorted to getting my kicks on motorcycles. They are the cheapest form of road entertainment. And I want to say I'm having more fun on a motorcycle than I would having to readjust a set of three dueces every night.

But besides that I feel it's time for a rant because some things have to be cleared up. Such as HYDROGEN IS A JOKE. WHY????? Let me tell you . . .

With current technology, more petroleum is burned to refine the amount of hydrogen that will make less energy in a fuel cell than jsut burning the petroleum in a regular internal combustion engine. But the DOE and the government don't make these fact big and public. They just choose not to talk about that issue. More ways to refine hydrogen are being worked out. But fuel cell cars are slow and really not fun.

If you think I'm blowing smoke, here, you should know I have competed in alternative fuel comptetitions and I can only say that gasoline is the most fun out of any fuel out there. I don't blame hot rodders for wasting it. I DO HATE SUVS AND EVERY PERSON WHO THINKS THE HUMMER IS A GREAT ROAD VEHICLE. But if you really want to go after someone, go after the airlines. They burn more gasoline on one trip than I will in my life.

Electric cars can be fun with all the low-end torque, but their range is limited. Gasoline is my mistress.

Also, 75% of the US's petroleum comes from Venezuela. Not the middle east. I'm sick of this stupid nonsense war as an excuse for prices to raise, even though only about 15% of the US's incoming fuel price is affected. Most of the profit is going somewhere and it's not to the station owners.
