Ok, so I am an Airbrush artist, I typically do custom paint jobs on motorcycles and the like. Now I am in the Gas Pump restoration realm for my own Bennett 1066. The artist in me wants to do something unique and different with the paint, then there is the part of me who wants to keep in as original as possible. So help me out. The pump shall be a Texaco Fire Chief theme. I will probably end up doing original red/white, but possibly a candy apple red with pearl white sides. Just curious on opinions or if I am breaking some sacred gas pump law if I deviate from original colors. I know there are a lot of Black/Orange Harley Davidson pumps out there but I have never seen anything else done. Please don't beat me up for asking.
FYI, The pump is for my own personal display in my office.

FYI, The pump is for my own personal display in my office. This pretty much answers your question. You are the one who has to look at it, so you're the one who has to be happy with it. My opinion would be to use an original paint scheme and as close to original colors as possible. But that's how I would do a pump for me, and I'm a purist. Either way, be sure to show us pictures when you get it done!

Firechief pumps were all red with a black base if you are going original colors. No white.

Do it to please Yourself, it can always be Re-done at a later time. Even the PUMP POLICE have done the same, either for themselves or customers. Some of the largest collectors have Dummy Clock Face/FANTASY Oil Company PUMPS.
