Has anyone restamped thier preproduction ID tags with the infomation from thier original tag? My old ID tag has been painted over a couple of times. I thought about buffing it out but that would make it all brass looking. I wanted the black back ground on it. I was going to restamp the info. off my old tag onto the reproduction tag. The stampings are pretty small. Does anyone know where to get stamps that small?

Here is an aluminum tag I restored. Pretty easy. If its a brass tag like a Wayne 80 or whatever. Better yet.

I have a small stamp set that I use to do my repo tags.very old,in a wooden box.not sure where you could find something like that.if you old tag is still in decent shape,clean all the paint off,spray paint flat black,let dry.then use some fine sandpaper on a sanding block,or something flat and sand lightly.paint will come of raised parts and look like larrys

My tag is off a Wayne 80 and is brass. What do you use the get the old paint off? And what if the old tag is not totally flat? Will painting it black and sanding still work? Flat black or gloss paint?

I take my tags to a local jewelry shop and have them engraved so font and size is exact Cost is 8.00 and they turn out WAY better than stamping them.

paint stripper to get paint off,i use flat black,but you could use gloss if you want.just let dry good before sanding.cant say i've done it on a rounded tag,but should still work ok.or flatten(db has big hammers) and rebend after done.don is right also,hard to get numbers aligned perfect with stamp,but to me it gives it a bit of character.

You can get the stamps at harbor freight and they have different sizes.Bill
