I ran across 4 Standard Oil Lubesters this weekend. The container was about 4 feet tall, but only 1 foot wide. The oil filler lid was cast "Standard Oil". Did Standard make their own lubesters or did the real Mfg just have a lid cast for them? Not sure if they were for sale, but I'm working on it.

I believe that the lubester manufacturers made specific lids for different manufacturers. I have seen at least six different manufacturer-specific lids in the last year. The occasionally turn up on e-bay.

One fellow listed a bunch a couple of months ago. It looked like he was clearing out a collection.

P.S. I'm looking for a 'Standard' lubester with the drain-back funnel. Where are you located? If you get them, drop me an e-mail.

Be careful of repros! Many lids are being repopped. There are only a few originals that turn up often. Repop lubester lids have been around for a long time.
Standard had their name cast in the side of the pump. Many have a brass tag too.

Thanks! I'd be a little suprised if these were repros as they came out of an old Standard Oil building. 1 had a plain cover.
Not sure what's going to be done with them yet. My brother is checking.......

One year I took a Standard Oil oil dispenser to Iowa Gas. It had the torch lid on it. I priced the dispenser at $65.00. A guy offered me $60.00 for the lid alone, I told him he could have the whole thing for $60.00. He told me he only wanted the lid, I could keep the dispenser.
