I just received a copy of a lawsuit (9 pages) Aumanns has against Dan Matthews in Illinois. It has no return address and was mailed from Wisconsin. There is a cover page that really knocks Dan and Tatiana. Has anyone else gotten this in the mail? Or know any more information? I think is a really underhanded way of doing things!

Unfortunately the lawsuit is real. I heard about it at Peotone.
Lawyers usually tell their clients to not discuss ongoing litigation with anyone so its a surprise that details of the suit are being made public.

This is a real shame. Matthews is a MUCH better and more professional company then Aumann. Aumann has gotten his nose out of joint because no one wants to use him. When I sell I certainly would not go with Aumann. Dan & Tatiana are much more professional and care about your collection and go out of their way to help you get the best price Ray

Ray, I agree with you. There is no comparison. Dan is a part of our group of collectors. He is dedicated to our hobby.I will continue to support him in any way I can. He is first class all the way.

It is really sad that it came to lawyers. Everyone said Aumann was the king of petro auctions... truth is it is the guy he had running it made it that way. Dan is the one that knows the people in the hobby and knows gas and oil pieces. Every company has people that are key people and Dan was the key guy at petro at Aumann's.
Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

Dan is the man, trust your instincts. I believe that dan shall prevail. I think this is because Dan always showed an interest in the hobby and Aumann showed an interest in our money. I am sure that Dan leaving cost Aumann dearly and his lawyers are out for blood. just my opinion.

Nobody wins in a lawsuit like this (except attorneys)....I know both Kurt & Dan, and just like always, there are at least 3 sides to every story. Yours, mine & the REAL story. Hopefully it will be resolved before they both go broke.

For the longest time I thought Dan was one of the owners of Aumann. When he went private I realized he wasn't. A real professional, wish him well in this matter. Jack Sim

I agree with Jarvis and Seth. I just hope they get it settled also before they both wind up broke and out of business. That would be a lose/lose situation for everyone. I have dealt with Dan personally at Aumann and his company. A class guy and goes out of his way to help. Good luck Dan my friend.
Phil

I'd like to suggest we all go to the Aumann site and ask them to drop the suit. Explain that, if they put Dan out of business, none of us would even consider coming to them for our consignments and that it will hurt their attendence at their own auctions. If Dan is gone someone else, who we can trust, will step up. I tried to introduce myself to Aumann at Columbus this past June and he basically ignored, me said hi, and walked away. He was not busy at the time so can't use that as an excuse for being rude. It's just him from what I hear

I saw a copy of it, no return address and it was not signed by the person or group of "concerend collectors" that supposedly sent it out. It looks like they are trying to run down Dans reputation while at the same time they are hiding their own names. If they are so worried, why didn't they put their names on it before sending it out? I do not know if the lawsuit has merrit or not but some one is afraid to sign their name(s) to what they sent out.

Who knows what kinds of agreements or contracts they may or may not have had in place when they parted company. Generally, when a business is sold or someone that made their name & rep working for another person's business decides to start their own, there are mutual agreements as to how everyone is going to conduct themselves. I know & like both of these guys, but I have NO FREAKIN' IDEA as to the reasonings or merits of this particular case, just pure speculation as to why their would need to be a lawsuit. I hope I get the letter, maybe it will explain the need for litigation. I wondered if they've exhausted all DIPLOMACY before going to war?? I'd have to feel REALLY wronged before I'd every consider suing someone. I watched my parents go thru a 10-year lawsuit (they were sued, then they counter-sued)that literally bankrupted them financially & emotionally.
