I have a M&S 80 with a tall, non-script top. I also have 2 sets of face plates. The original has the sight gauge in the face plate, the other does not. I kind of like the sight gauge in the top as looks better to me on a tall top model. I can cut a hole in the top, but how is the sight gauge attached? I'm guessing it's not just the rubber gasket that is used on the faceplate models. Anyone have parts for the conversion? Thanks.

Let me take a look at mine tonight. I think you can simply remove the site glass manifold assembly (along with the brackets that attach it to the frame) and reinstall everything on top of the frame. Then, before you reinstall the glass, pop the tall top on and mark it for centers on the site glass and cut your holes. The rubber gasket is held on with the SS Trim and two screws. The manifold holds the site glass in place. The glass just projects thru the top.

Like I said, I'll look tonight, I've got a few of these and have both short top and tall top ('cyclops') versions (and a 'Blue Sonoco' ad top pump!). If need be, I can shoot you some digital images of the arrangement for reference.

Okay, I've looked at mine. It is just moving the sight glass manifold to mount above the top of the frame instead of below the frame. However, the 'Z' brackets are different lengths between the two versions.

Your best bet would be to win a Cyclops top on e-bay and ask the seller if he had the correct brackets/electrical 'goose-neck' etc. to go along with it. Or check with Vic's/Weber's/etc to see if they had any spare parts.

You could make your own brackets out of some flat steel stock. If you decide to go this route - shoot me an e-mail and I'll measure the overall height of the brackets for the top mount. Of course, you'll still have to figure out where to cut the holes for the sight glasses - and convert the electrical for the tall set-up to run your globe illumination (if you are going to run a globe, that is).

The rubber sight glass gasket is available from the major supply houses - Vic's, Weber's, Gas Pump Heaven etc. I have not found anyone reproducing the SS trim yet.

P.S. I'd be interested in buying the non-holed top you have if you end up getting a factory cyclops top to use.
