I am making my own globe lens for the pump I am restoring. I had vinyl lettering done and applied it to the inside of a clear globe lens. Now I need to color the back of the lens (the vinyl lettering is white). Does anyone have any suggestions? I could just spray paint the lens but I'm thinking the paint would block all light from coming thru.

With a 60 watt bulb, there should be enough light to come through . Just remember to not "Overspray " you're coats of paint so as to create streaks on the inside . I've done things like this in building exhibits for meusuiems . Ed Shaver

I've done it a couple of times, keep it light and back off with the spray and it should be fine.

Worse thing that happens is you have to clean it all off and put on new stickers. LOL

Make a Light Box to lay lenses on, that way you can get spray even & only use as much as needed.
Same w/ doing SHELL & CROWN Globes.

Use Dick's suggestion and apply a lot of very light coats.
BTW - I hope you had the sign shop cut you 'translucent' vinyl, not opaque. If not, once you light up the lenses, the lettering will go 'black'.

You can use stain glass spray paint they sell it at craft stores each coat applied gets darker

Good idea Dick. Never thought of that... I've been around the Block more than ONCE! LOL 1st Crown I painted looked Great, till I lite it up!  Had to strip & redo.

...the lenses will look better on a glass body than a Capco...the white glass will help diffuse the light...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
