Any suggestions on how to get pump shaft freed up or how to get pump apart. 2' pipe wrench and 3' cheater pipe won't budge the shaft.

Even better than WD-40, is the stuff called P-Blaster. Works on every stuck bolt or fitting that I've had to deal with...

You should try some HEAT. Use a cutting torch with a ROSEBUD tip. Remove the gland [packing] nut. Heat up the casting around the shaft. Tap the shaft a couple of time [being carefull not to pean the end]. As it starts to cool, pour some used motor oil on the shaft.
IF it stays stuck, you will have to disassememble the the pump unit [there is a build up of rust inside, keeping the VANE from moving].
GOOD LUCK
Dick

I tried the soaking methods with no luck and finally got my pump free by taking the cover off and cleaning out the gunk from the inside as Dick suggested.

Start by removing the packing nut on the shaft and then pull out all the packing. I find it easiest to apply some heat to do this. However the nut is probably brass so don't overdo it. Remove all the bolts holding the face plate on. Using a pry bar, screwdriver or chisel try to catch the underside of the faceplate and give it a firm hit with a hammer. You will probably have to do this multiple times in different locations until you finally feel it break loose. Work the faceplate off the shaft, which is an extremely tight fit. You may even have to lightly file the end of the shaft if it has been hammered or burrs are present. It takes some time, patience and lots of accurate prying but it will come off. Once the facepalte is off you can clean it up and oil it and eveerything should work fine.

Thanks for the replys. I finally got it apart after using a piece of heavy angle bolted to shaft, 2 hydraulic jacks pushing against housing, and lots of heat and hammering. It came out hard all the way. Guess that's what happens when a pump lays in the woods for 50 years.
Thanks again, David
