Sold a couple of lead signs on Ebay back in January. The guy paid with Ebays Bill Me Later. I got paid three times from them but they then charged me back for two payments in the next couple of days so I thought all was OK. WRONG! I got 2 notices yesterday saying the buyer was protesting the charges saying he only received one credit and not two but two cases where opened against me. I was not too worried as you could see in my paypal account that there were 3 charges and two credits. Pretty simple right. WRONG AGAIN. I went through the paypal resolution and gave them the transaction numbers of the credits the buyer received thinking that should end it. Got notice today they ruled in favor of the buyer so I ended up paying him the selling price of the signs plus he got the signs free. 3 credits and 4 chargebacks. NICE!!!

You can dispute ebays decision. Provide all correct documentation. Worth a shot. Calling them up is a waste of time for a dispute. Most disputes are handled electronic.

just to play a little devils advocate here... tougher for the buyer all the time too... how many auctions do you see ended early? if its an auction format, that shouldnt be allowed. how many times do you see something sold and then re-listed for a higher price. I personally become victim to these things almost on a weekly basis.
there are a lot of things that stink for the seller, but just as many for the buyer.

Well just got two more chargebacks for a total of 6 now. This is now a total joke and I am being repremanded for the chargebacks and being told how to avoid them in the future. I think I know how to avoid them.

A chargeback typically occurs when a buyer pays for something with a credit card, usually but not always, online. If something legitimate goes wrong with the purchase like the buyer's credit card is overcharged or the wrong item is received by the buyer, the buyer can call his credit card company and "dispute" the charge. If the credit card company sides with the buyer against the seller, the credit card company reaches right into the seller's bank account and deducts (chargeback) the money and sends it back to the buyer. This is all part of that fine, very fine print in the agreement to use credit cards. In this case it sounds like the system has gone completely berserk.

I heard pay pal doesn't want any beef with the credit card companies, so they will always take the buyers side in a disputed case.

Well here is the rest of the story so far. I was charged two $20.00 service charges by the sellers credit card company for the dispute and my loss. Finally got ahold of a live person at paypal and after talking to 3 different people I finally got someone to physically look at my account and the charges and chargebacks. After a very short time they agreed I was correct and they credited me back for the chargebacks and for both $20.00 service charges. So at this point I am now OK as long as nothing else happens.
Luckily this sale was only a $37.00 sale on a couple of lead signs. Just think what would have happened if it was a several hundred or thousand dollar transaction!!

Glad you got the credits back where they belong, Keith.
This happens to merchants and service providers in all businesses on a regular basis with all credit cards, not just through Paypal. The customer gets buyer's remorse, damages the item himself or is trying to get something for nothing and the vendor gets a chargeback for no fault of his own.
