...no - it's not 'better than nothing'...if you're SERIOUSLY interested in gas and oil memorabilia, INVEST the time you waste watching 'American Peckers' looking around on eBay...or reviewing the other auction site results...or pay for a Worthpoint membership...or pull a little overtime to make some more dough to take to your next swap meet...
...take the time you'd spend chortling about how the 'Peckers' passed on a clockface pump, and learn what makes a sign real, fake or fantasy...if you collect Texaco, learn about Sinclair, or Esso...that will pay off way more in the future, when you're walking through a gas show, auction or when someone calls you because they're selling some items from their collection...and you won't be fattening the wallets of the Peckers or the jerks in Argentina...
...you won't learn anything useful watching the slime-slick hucksters and their tattooed bimbo on a SEASON of 'Peckers' (or Pawn Stars, or any of them), that you can't learn in an HOUR on eBay...if you watch those morons because you want laughs with your gas stuff - go to a gas show with some friends, and don't forget the beer...
...I'm sorry if this sounds blunt, but I can't think of another way to put it: I see so many 'newbies' and others asking - frankly - dumb questions, or ones that are easily answered by doing a little research...that, coupled with the ridiculous prices some repro/fantasy pieces are bringing on eBay, tells me that we have a wealth of enthusiasm, but little going on in the way of useful education...
...'American Peckers' is poorly prepared junk food...most of you are grown-ups...eat some freakin' vegetables...
...I'm with 'wildcatter' - I would love to see a rusty Tall Ten tetanus farm fall squarely on those idiots...
