Gary, you very well could have "A Golden Ticket" (borrowing from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory)
Johnson Oil items are some of the most sought after items in the Hobby.
You seem to have a NOS flange sign that is uncommon, plus the original packing crate for it...
In a large Auction, I wouldn't be surprised if a "couple whales" got into a bidding war over such a sign and drove the price well above the norm...
Looking for Tide Water/ Tide Water-Associated/ Tidewater items

...and, the sign is pretty narrowly dated as well to very late 1930 or early 1931...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Because of everyone being honest and coming clean with me on the extreme rarity and potential value of the sign,....I feel I should come clean with you now. When the crate was opened, there was not just 1 NOS sign,....but 6,...yes SIX Beautiful NOS Johnson Products Heavy, Thick, 4 Color Porcelain Signs!!! I am feeling like I could actually faint about now! My question now, is, do I part them out individually or keep all 6 together with the original crate? What do you experts think? When they are gone,...they're GONE!

Sorry - if there are 6 of these, they are not rare any more. Barely worth the scrap metal value, but I'll take them off your hands for $100.
Just kidding - What a great find. The newspaper with the 1930s stock values is probably a great read.

...what do I think? I think I would have kept that little detail under my cap (along with the best sign), and sold five...one every other year for a decade...

I'd keep 3, and sell 3 over the next few years. There will be a day when you really want(need) something that's very rare/valuable. Sometimes only a trade can get those deals done.

I wouldn't sell more than one a year also. Should keep the value up that way. I don't think you can go wrong by keeping them as an investment. Richard

Thanks Tunk-Z28, It's all about the "thrill of the hunt". To bad, that finds like this didn't surface once a month vs. once every 10 to 20 years :-)
