I thought it might be interesting to know which oil companies import Middle Eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00 - 8/31/01):

Shell....................205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco.......... 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil............ 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway....... 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco.................... 62,231,000 barrels

If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION!

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Citgo....................0 barrels
Sunoco............. ..0 barrels
Conoco............. ..0 barrels
Sinclair............... 0 barrels
BP/Phillips.......... 0 barrels
Hess...................0 barrels

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.

I'm still trying to determine which of the above listed companies are actually U.S. owned... anybody know?

Given that crude oil is a fungible commodity (i.e., is bought, sold and traded amongst the majors on a regular basis) such "facts" are pointless. And if you are gullible enough to believe that BP imports no oil from the Middle East, let me tell you about some ocean-front property in Arizona.

Here in Nebraska there isn't any difference in prices between the importers and the domestic companies. So....I agree they all must import or they all want to enjoy the higher prices.

I know it's a little off topic, but it would be great if our oil companies were allowed to go after the oil we have underground on our own soil. ie. Alaska. Also recently natural gas was found under Lake Erie and our state gov't won't let anyone go get it. Of course it will be ok if Canada does though.

Number 1 . the oil from that area is a better quality oil for owr refinerys , the oil from this land is a thickeroil and takes more money to pump it ,even the oil from Alaska was heated just to git it to move ,so its cheaper to import,and you can thank owr companys, in 1946-47, a oil group headed by Signal oils a part of Standard by then took drilling teams to sadia Arabia, the companys was Hancock ,Wilshire ,Richfield/Rio grande, Texaco ,and they stayed over there till 1967 , its all in a book called," Little Giant of Signal Hill" , just sold my last copy to a collector in Oregon ,you can find it in your libary, but many copies were given to Signal employees when they retired after they got back I have sutch a book ,signed by Sam Mosser,

If anybody wants a copy of the book.... check out.... .... I just looked and they had 58 copies ranging in price from $4.95 to $75.00.... with most of them being under $20.... how much did you sell yours for Dwaine.....

I bought the book from an old emploee for a friend for 50.00 , then he didn't want it , i sold it for 50.00 the one I have for my collection is signed , not for sale , but read this book , and learn about the Tarzan club of America , learn that Signal didn't go out of business they just moved to Houston and joined the areospase program ,
next time you change your oil and use a fram filter , look at the box , Signal , Standard oil has owned fram for years , you got to love this hobby .
