I have seen vintage photos of that post being used with Texaco signs.

I don't think Gulf used THIS particular pole - this one is Texaco. I have the one Gulf used; it does not 'fork' at the top, it is solid. The sign is still offset from the pole, but is closer to the pole than this would be. Seems like a Texaco sign, like this one, was still standing in Florida, and was featured in Check The Oil! before it had been swept away by Hurricane Andrew...

Many companies used both this style and the banjo style poles. The determining factor was the set back from the road.

I'M ALMOST SURE ANY 6' ROUND SIGN WOULD FIT IN THIS POLE, BUT I'VE ONLY SEEN TEXACO IN THIS PARTICULAR POLE STYLE AS SHOWN BELOW:



I KNOW OF 3 LOCALLY THAT ARE TEXACO IN THAT STYLE POLE FRAME.
GULF SIGNS WERE 66" WIDE, SO NOT FOR THIS SET-UP.

I have seen Gulf & Texaco. But like Doc said any 6 ft sign would fit in nicely.

Gulf used a couple of different versions. Both had the sign closer to the pole like mentioned before. One version was open similar to this, the other more common version was solid.

After looking through a bunch-a road maps., i stand corrected on the gulf, it did not have two forks to hold the sign. The texaco sure looks good though.

I think a PURE oil sign would look mighty mighty fin in there as well. Even though I am a Texaco kinda guy. Later, Dean
