Does anyone have any experience with Alvin Products "Lab-Metal"? The high temp filler claims you can powder coat over it. Just wondered if anyone has tried it. Thanks! http://www.alvinproducts.com/Products/Products.asp?ID=1 ------------------ Bobbie Martin

I have used it and powder coated over it and it comes out good but only if it is not too thick. It is good to about 1/4 inch.

Hi Bobbie,
I don't have any experience with the Lab-Metal but JB Weld will also hold up in powder coating. I am anxious to try Lab-metal out since JB Weld is not exactly a fine quality body filler to my way of thinking.
Thanks for sharing. Koz

I have used this stuff and it is great. No mixing, just open the can and use. When it dries you can use it in any way you would like. I have drilled and tapped this stuff once it has set up. I have also painted over it and it worked nicely. I would try it on a sample piece first and see how it works.
Thanks, Phil _________________________________________________ Looking for any old pumps, or nice 5 gallon cans.

I have talked to my powder coating guy and he says that this or all metal can be powder coated if it is not too thick. They can adjust the temp a little bit lower when using these items. My understanding is that when the temp is lowered the finished is not as hard, but just fine for most applications. Good luck and I am interested to hear about other people's experince with fillers and powder coating. Oh one other thing, my guy showed me how on some frame parts that he could lay several coats of powder coating on and flow it out so that it filled most of the pitts. Bottom line, find a good powder coating company that will work with you.
