...that would be a gross understatement...

...some of the same items have remained unsold, or sold for much MUCH less on eBay...and I'm not talking about 'beaters', either - same condition...and on eBay the stuff is in front of more people...that's no knock on Dan or Matthews Auctions, there's just too many people trying to outdo one another at this kind of scene...I suppose that's great if you are selling your collection...and, if you're a buyer and have - as Forrest Gump put it - 'more money than Davy Crockett', it's no problem, so long as you have the strength the hold your hand in the air...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

My wife was watching with me online...she almost ripped my Rand Mcnally sign off the wall and ran when she found out what it went for...lol. I tried explaining to her than when a room of wealthy car collectors get together and get the auction BIG D$%@K SYNDROM things go for more than normal...had to be a record for a Mcnally sign though.

Mainly focused on Oilzum, Jenney, Harris Oil items & original paint gas pumps.

Wow! If you were watching online, you already know most of the story!
I bid on several signs today and was runner-up one one and actually got to purchase one!
I always sit by 2 Old Gassers that buy a lot of signs and they each got a couple more than me, but that was it!
The really nice porcelains were thru the roof again, and whats really suprising is the prices of cans! There was a $3500 dollar quart and a lot of $1500 to $2000 cans! No lack of bidders on the cans either. Seemed everyone wanted them.
I would think the sale must have set a Matthews record for the number of signs over $25,000!
I sure hope the swap meet tomorrow isn't as nuts. Things could be priced pretty high if all the sellers watched the sale action.
Sure was fun being here today and seeing some of the signs that I would never get to see otherwise! Lots of Old Gassers on premises, so the stories were rolling!
A couple of us are headed out to the Bierstube in a bit for some beer and the best steaks in the area. If you ever get here and haven't tried it, you're really missing a terrific meal! Thats it for now----KEVIN

high prices... thats for sure! i got a few low dollar ones, not a single one over $200. i would agree that there were quite a few bidders that obviously got caught up in the moment and were paying a full 2 times what some were worth (imo). but I will say the majority of the signs were 8.5-9.5 for condition. My wife walked around and took some pictures that I'll try to post soon.

On a side note, thanks to Kevin and the other guy (sorry I'm horrible with names) who helped with wrestling that crazy heavy cities service pole sign into my trailer!
