Metal globe bodies can be the most exasperating things at times! Some of them are just off enough that the rings won't fit properly, and lots of times, the glass lenses will be off enough to not lay level in the body, or even be a hair too big in diameter.
At times I have had to search for a body that would fit my lenses, or sometimes I've had to tweek the body a little to get them to lay fit!
There is no magic solution except for trial and error to find a body that fits your lenses properly.
You might try one size smaller diameter wire ring if its really close!
Hope this helps!

I bought a pair of 15" lenses that had never been In a body. Turns out it was because they were out of round. I had to grind them down to fit yikes! Talk about stressful.

Looking for any Alabama based globes and advertising such as Coastal, Rebel, Interstate Oil, Foster Oil (supertane), Mutual, Oil Well, etc...

Ok, I've never been down this road. But sounds like the easiest fix is to buy a dremal tool and do a little tweaking to the body.

or find a smaller dia wire ring as KW mentioned.
I've used Chainlink tension wire [top/bottom wire] & wrapped around a 5gal bucket to form.
