How can you get burned by a check?

Check arrives in mail.
Deposit check.
Wait for check to clear.
Ship item.
If check doesn't clear, dont ship item.

And for what it's worth, when shipping UPS collect, you cannot go to a UPS store. The stores are franchised. You have to bring it to a "UPS Customer Service Center". At least that is what I had to do when I recently sold my Outboard cans to Sid.

And also for what it's worth. His checked cleared just fine and the cans are on the way to him. (I actually shipped them before the check cleared)

Unless I'm wrong, if a check bounces both parties involved pay a fee so if you deposit a bad check you can lose up to $35 in fines I think?

You are correct they are called NSF (non sufficient funds)fees.

In my opinion buyer has the right to determine mode of payment that is accepted and who the item is sold to.

Paypal is the easiest method for me and I don't complain when sellers refuse to accept paypal. If I want an item bad enough then I will do anything to accommodate the seller.

Well , As always this seems to be a joke on this thread , when selling something on this site maybe one should say PAYPAL ONLY if thats what they want . I would keep me from wasting my Time!!

Ok Sid,

It has nothing to do with trust, its my policy. I wont take a check form my mother, period. I pay a service charge from my bank when a check goes bad, and I just don't need the BS. My time is worht something too. Payapl, USPS money orders(which you initially agreed to) and cash are the only way I deal, better for both buyer and seller.

Seller has absolute right to set terms IMO

And not taking checks is totally reasonable...
