How can you get burned by a check?
Check arrives in mail.
Deposit check.
Wait for check to clear.
Ship item.
If check doesn't clear, dont ship item.

And for what it's worth, when shipping UPS collect, you cannot go to a UPS store. The stores are franchised. You have to bring it to a "UPS Customer Service Center". At least that is what I had to do when I recently sold my Outboard cans to Sid.
And also for what it's worth. His checked cleared just fine and the cans are on the way to him. (I actually shipped them before the check cleared)
