I ran into this at an antique store in Flint Mi. I've never seen this little arrow counter thing before. How did it function?

If you are talking about the rectangular piece on the right side of the pump with the arrow, I believe it is the switch to change the flow direction from the pump to the tank?

I thought the pricer fit there and it pointed to the price per gallon.

I have seen these labeled "to car" and "to tank". So I also think it was a directional valve.

Drain Back Valve is connected to handle at bottom of door. When door is open handle swings to left & arrow is raised to top TO CAR. Handle must be moved to Right to close door & arrow moved to bottom TO STORAGE.

Pump should have a 1" or 1 1/4" Hose. Notch at bottom of door is to lockup nozzle at night or when not in service.
