I would come up with what you think it is worth too you & then make the seller price it- you might be surprised, then go from there... I guess its just beginners luck I found this sign, since it was a 48" Pegasus shield sign I was looking for. Some price guidance would really be helpful, since this will be the first porcelain sign I ever purchased. Like I said in some of my other posts, I am newly retired and just looking to fix up my garage. But I don't want to overpay for something. He also has these Texaco signs in addition to the Gargoyle shield. But I don't know if they are real and I am VERY WARY about fakes. What do you guys think? What would be a good package price for the 3 Texaco signs and Gargoyle? They all would display nicely in my garage. Thanks! -Mike

The Texaco signs all look real..theyre each worth around $150. I havent seen that Gargoyle sign so i have no clue where the value would be.

The Texaco signs are common signs. Check ebay sold listings for a better feel.

No one offered up an estimated value yet so I will give it a shot. I dont know either what it is worth but I am confident that if you cleaned it up and put a coat of wax on it, you could sell it at Iowa Gas for $800. So to me, that means it is worth at least $800 and up to ?? Anyone else willing to offer up a number $$ ?

I agree with you Wes. , $ 800 would be a safe & fair starting point for them . , I seen this yesterday , but 1st gargoyle I had seen in that size so I had no idea .Your not going to get hurt . Better go try to buy it before it gets away from you. That a neat sign .

Travis, I wish I could- the gargoyle 48" would be a cool sign too have but the 2 of subject the condition isn't there- one that you would add too the collection would be in the 7500.+ neighborhood depending who the competition was but as of now I'm aware of 3 of these and the other one a tree had grown around it...

Anyone else willing to offer up a number $$ ? i would say the one pictured in the original post would be worth a decent amount... I am not a Mobil collector, but I would buy it for $1k. usually that means its worth around $1500, since surely someone would want it more than me?

I got the sign for $1,500. Here is a pic of both sides. It hasn't been cleaned yet. My first porcelain!
Before I hang it up in my garage, should I spruce it up a little? Or leave it alone?
I get using the Howards Feed & Wax to gloss it up more. I actually have some from an old furniture restoration project.
It could use a de-rusting since it has some streaks and discoloration. There seems to be much disagreement on this subject and what works best. If anything, I think it justs need a mild gentle treatment. Or should I just leave it alone?
And one of the lower shield tabs is moderately bent outward. I'm confident I can bend it back. Or should I just leave it alone?
Any advice or comments are welcome. I surely don't want to screw this sign up. And I thank you for the help and advice you have already given. Thank you! -Mike
