Welcome aboard consiglia smile Great sign, Glad we could motivate you into buying it!!!!!!!!!!
However,
I thought we had to own the signs before posting for appraisals?
So everyone can post anyones signs from the net for appraisal...
WOW! The New Pickers will LOVE this philosophy!!!! just sayin...

Tom,
There never has been a rule that the items asked about on the value forum have to be owned by the questioner. Lots of questions in the past have been a potential buyer asking about items on eBay, in a shop or otherwise owned by a seller. We prefer that the photo is taken by the questioner, but understand that is not always practical. If a member abuses the value forum, he/she can lose participation in that forum category.

Some water, non abrasive pad, and some bar keeper’s friend will make that sign look great! Welcome to the hobby, and we hold meetings every Sunday night to share our "addition"! Glad you went back for it...your first sign is defiantly a keeper! Anthony

Congratulations on a great sign and a great buy. That is a neat sign and one that, I would have also bought given the opportunity.

An awesome first sign...this is only the beginning. Did you buy the Texaco signs as well?

Hi Tom,

I can understand your concern about pickers. However, I am simply a new collector. Back in December, I introduced myself on the new member forum. I also posted on the WTB forum looking for a Mobilgas Pegasus shield. You can find all my previous posts. I had budgeted about the same amount of money for a nice Pegasus, so when the Gargoyle came along I was pretty sure I would buy it. Like most people here, I didn't even know it existed. The members motivated me to get it ASAP. He already sold his Texaco signs and was taking the Gargoyle to a local swap today to sell. So had I waited on the sign it most likely would of been gone. Barret-Jackson buyers are already flooding into Arizona and that is who he sold his Texaco's to. The Gargoyle will go up on the wall in my garage once I clean and wax it.

I think you guys shouldn't have much problem weeding out the pickers from the legitimate new collectors. I am legit, and I thank everyone for the help they have given a new collector. -Mike

Yes congratulations. There are a number of threads about cleaning up porcelain. Just use the Google search bar (Bottom right corner of the page) and type in "cleaning....whatever you want to clean", and you'll get lots of advice from previous discussions on the subject. Apparently BEER is a vital component of any cleaning endeavor.

Tom- I think your thinking about items listed for sale. A couple guys had posted photos they took in a mall or whatever, jacked up the price and offered it on Oldgas. If the item would sell, they'd go buy it and pocket the difference.

Thanks Jim and JimT for clarifying...lol
I assumed the rules applied to this forum also???
Perhaps the same should apply!

"If a member abuses the value forum, he/she can lose participation in that forum category."

IF there are No Rules, then how do you abuse it???? LOL

Unless you want reproductions made within weeks, better guard your images well....I use water marks if I show off my rare signs...

I have searched this site and found some great ideas on cleaning signs. I will be very careful, and test a small area first before treating the whole sign. Once I get it all done I will post some new pics!

There are rules. The Guideline rules for the value forum are in the first topic on the forum. The rules in the Membership Agreement also apply as they do in all forums. Plus the rule of common sense apply as well.

Well, first of all, I hope I am following the rules here. And if I am not, I apologize and its only because I am new.

That members of this site are also counterfeiters is a pretty bad indictment! And you say pickers are also a big problem.

If I understand what you are saying, it seems like the deceitful counterfeiters and slimy profit hungry pickers are ruining the hobby for everyone. Perhaps they should be banned once they are exposed?

I clean all my porcelain signs with Bar Keepers Friend! (Just like Comet/Ajax, but they are too harsh.) Bar Keepers friend will remove the rust lines, and paint. It will polish the porcelain. It is used on brass in in your local bar.
