I have a chance to pick this up. What would it be worth in the current shape.Is there any way to repair it. Owner said they have original pole that can go with it, its just a smooth round pole. Does pole add value? Any help is appreciated. thanks

I don't think there is any economical way to repair.

$300 to much?

If you can get it for $300 that's well worth it.

Anyone who tells you it's minimal is inexperienced.

The bad side can't be repaired "like new" however it can be repaired with the modern plastic welders with care. The only issue is that the repair will show when lit.

A complete 76 ball is desirable and don't let anyone tell you it's not. If the pole is easily accessible and cheap (scrap cost since it's nothing but round tube I'd get it.

Repaired w/pole $800-1000 for THOSE WHO KNOW. I leave the rest of the guys to naysay because that's what they are good at anyway.

FWIW gas brand lighted signs have been on the upswing for some time and the 76 ball is one anyone of us over 40 remember seeing if we went to the races as it was the gas at many of the tracks.

Yes, pay $2000 to make $500 or pay $300 to make $300.... You stick to the former I prefer the latter.

This is what happens when greedy flippers infiltrate a collectors site and try to convince us their way is the way.

Not looking to flip I'm just looking for it to keep and put up by my barn. I really love the 76 stuff. I just don't wanna over pay (Which I know nobody wants to do). But I'd like to be at a price if I need to sale I can do so in a reasonable time frame. So let me change the question.....if you had it for sale, what would you ask for it? Bottom dollar

Vwbus, your post is OK. Its Carolinaskies who tries to glorify damaged and undesirable signs and inflates the values to help his own interest in selling.
This sign is OK but as a collector item the value is not as high as a better condition one. It would not be worth the expense to repair it. It will always be a damaged sign.

I agree with KZ1000 and advertologist. I just started collecting petroliana (in 1982) so I guess my inexperience is showing. I'm pretty sure KZ1000 has been collecting longer than I have and I suspect Advertologist has been too.

Ditto don't buy junk save your money and buy nice stuff you will be a lot happier later on. I have a lot of stuff I bought 25 years ago when I first got started that is still worth about what I paid for it then. Wish I had bought a few better items and not cheap items. Like most I bought every cheap thing I seen

Not sure how anyone can judge whether the sign can be repaired by looking at the pics. Plastic signs can lose their integrity depending on conditions, they can become very brittle. The sign could be junk or worth a few bucks but not worth the trouble IMHO, buy better quality, you'll never be sorry. Leave the junk for the beginners or flippers. Experienced collectors all agree.

The problem- one of them- with buying stuff thats off condition is that when you go to sell it, to upgrade or make some money for something that you want more is, that the buyer has a lot of ammunition to pick it apart. Then your stuck making excuses for your junk while the prospective buyer is walking away. Its hard to polish a turd. Not to mention the whole time its in your possession, every time you look at it (me anyway) I have a hard time looking past the repairs/damage. I'd say buy something you can be proud of.
