I'm the new pump owner. I was on here once 6 years ago when I bought a Boyle Dayton curbside. (Still have it.) What's the difference between a 177 and a 179? Mine has the indentations in the top that looks like it should have 2 external lights and a place for the conduit to go in. I brought it home yesterday under the tutelage of Boxcar. While laying on the trailer, I observed that the 2 pieces of pipe that hold all the weight (bottom of skins badly rusted) were rusted away from the base. Finally figured out that those pieces of pipe were threaded on the end that was rusted away. I had a piece of 1 in pipe that just had to be cut into two 11 inch pieces, and threaded on one end, The most labor intensive was knocking out some rusted threads so I could use a 1in NPT tap. I'm glad I'm retired --this project took an entire day. I was initially planning to just move the pump to my place, and place it, as it was, in front of my old barn. Since I spent the entire day rebuilding the main support, I was wondering if I should do a cosmetic restoration. It doesn't look that complicated. I've completely restored 6 Model T's , a 29Chev, a 38 Chev, an 80 Z-28 Camaro, and currently working on a 48 Lincoln Cabriolet. This gas pump don't have near as many parts as a car!. I'm trying to decide if I want to stand it up as is, or make it pretty. The globe seems to have a 7 in base and everyone I see seems to be 6in. What's up with that?
