Didn't see an answer in a search.... Finally cleaning up my M&S 80. I can rotate the re-set handle 360 degree and the wheels spin and it appears to re-set. I can't spin the shaft underneath to get the computer running.
Is there a lock out mechanism? I removed the linkage on the opposite side so only the shaft with the offset is exposed. The computer gears below the wheels appears to be free. What am I missing???

Thanks

Greg

Try opening the door on the veeder root bottom cylinder and use your thumbs to spin the bottom gears. You’ll get a little more leverage. It’s a little rough on the thumbs, but you can handle it. Spray the ***** out of those gears with lubricant, and make sure no mouse nest residue anywhere in the VR. A tiny twig can hold it up.

I also took an old 1/4” socket and ground a groove down both sides, so I can put it on the shaft and spin the bottom shaft, when they are turning free. See picture.

Thumb wouldn't move it but with a little pursuasion I was able to get it to move a little (didn't want to break a gear tooth). Slowly made a full revolution.
Sprayed everything and will try again tomorrow. Thanks!

Ok cool. Did it move the numbers up top? The black ones on the wheel for the display?

Also should ding after one gallon, but only if you can visibly see a bell on the side of the veeder root. If you see a bell and it doesn’t ding, there’s probably crud in the bell or there’s crud holding up the little metal arm of the lever that rings the bell.
