A recent Christie's art auction featured a painting of a gas station that brought $68,000,000. Ed Ruscha’s 1964 "Standard Station, Ten-Cent Western Being Torn in Half"
Perhaps one of you guys on Oldgas.com bought it. wink

Cool painting. Seems like a great deal.

WOW - $68 million for that!

Think of all the good that money could have done for those that are in desperate need instead of, in my opinion, something that looks like it was cut out of a magazine!

Here’s a bargain - this sold for only $6.24 million yesterday at a Sothebys auction in New York. What kind of moron spends multi millions on a talentless piece of “art” such as this?

I was going to buy the Standard painting, but the pumps were too modern, so I passed.

Oh my gosh Dave, I thought you were kidding and found that picture on the internet. But then I thought, some people are morons, so I had to check. You weren’t joking !!!!!!!

The joke will be on us when he sells it in 5 years to another sucker for 10 million.

...my late father worked briefly at UNH in the early ‘70s, and was involved in purchasing artworks for the university collection...Ruscha came by, and UNH bought some of his silkscreened prints...I think Dad said he had bought a print of this design for the school...the artist pulled prints of this design with various ink colors...

...for the money, I’d rather have Edward Hopper’s 1940 work, ‘Gas’....

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

For the money, well.... that's a large amount of porcelain you could cover walls with!!! smile

68 million though in the grand scheme of things would indeed best assist more desperate people then look good on any wall......

As to gas station paintings, I recently acquired this painting at a fraction of the Ruscha painting. It is a local station that has disappeared with modernization.
