I have a question that i want to ask and please keep it positive.
We do a "Of the month" every month and i want to know what people think of topics that keep going months after it's time? Do you think that when the month is up we say thanks for hard work and let the next guy have his turn? Is it ok the keep bringing up old topics for months?
I decided not to do globe of the month because of all the topics we already had going. It's almost a little to much.

I want to know what others think and again keep it positive with no bashing or i will tell Jim to delete the topic.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

I am new to this site and I too don't understand having "of the month" if it keeps going, The last day of the month is the deadline, that's it, done. The 1st of the month starts a new topic, That is the only way to keep it fresh and exciting, It tends to get very boring going over and over the same topic.

i think its a positive thing regardless of who starts the thread. tends to keep alot of this "stuff" under one catagory. if its boring to you ... don't read it. jj, there are other things out there other than saltshakers and globes. on your "globe" thread you said that people weren't posting because of the fear of people stealing the image. generated little interest even after you drew lines accross the image. can it be that it was an issue of enough globes already ???. but... it might be an issue for the moderators and/or big jim. i don't think this post bashes you. if i wanted to bash you i would have sent you an email.

I do feel that Curt's extremely interesting Collectible OTM is not getting the attention it deserves because of a >1 month topic. Because of computer (and other) problems, I wasn't able to post all the Pure photos I had. Regarding several recent shots, I'm just going to throw them onto FATW. Being fairly new here, I wish to tread lightly, but I wouldn't feel right about extending my topic much beyond its due date. It's not like a library book--you can't renew it.
Would I feel differently if the long topic was one that fascinated me? Maybe.

"collectible of the MONTH" pretty much speaks for itself

like i said... who cares if kmann starts the thread or curt, or jarvis or judy or anybody else. its got a heading. keeps things organized. i can't help but think this is an issue over the outboard thread. if outboard was posted elsewhere than anybody doing a search is all over the map. now... sorry for ******* you all off so i will end the thread. did i hear sighs of relief out there...lol... well... since when was this a posting contest ??.. i got a bunch of emails telling me to keep it going.. but... the issue is "of the month"... so... not to make anymore "issues".. outboards is done. hope that makes you all happy. go pick on something else. oh... did that sound bad ??... didn't mean for it to come out that way.

Edit to hide unacceptable word

Maps, I believe that Curt's collectible of the month started on the 12th so there is still time to post more photos of gas stations and bulk plants. I believe that each "of the month" starts on different days of the month anybody know for sure jack

For clarification it is my understanding that Collectible of the Month starts on the 12th and runs until the 12th of the following month. Other than that clarification I will stay out of the controversy.

A big thanks to those of you that have posted your vintage station photos and for that matter that post on any of the "Of the Month" posts. I enjoy seeing all of the contributions.

I am not saying we should stop the threads I just wanted to know if people think we should keep past topics going for months or be courteous to the next guying doing his "of the month"? I can see a few things getting posted after the fact but to keep going months after?
I am not saying we shouldn't stop posting if you have a few more things to share.

Yes there is something new that starts every week.

Kmann, I am not saying I didn't enjoy outboard thread I did. I have chose not to read it anymore because it is enough for me.
I know there are more stuff than globes and shakers... I have cans, signs, pumps, but I mainly focus on those 2.

Again this is not directed to anyone personally, i just think the outboard thread is what got me thinking if we should have a dead line for of the months.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

There has never been a written rule that "Of The Month" features couldn't have additional content added later. But the understanding has always been that the feature would be the best you could do in one month and then let the next month's feature take over.

The "Of the Month" features do have staggered starting dates so content is spread out a little. Take a look at the first post's date in an "Of The Month" feature and figure the month is over one month from the first post.

Additional items that a collector has recently gotten should be posted in the Buys of the Week topic for that week. Or we can reschedule another month to feature a special interest if enough additional content turns up.

If a thread generates alot of intrest past one month I don't have a problem with that.I don't feel that it takes away from other posts at all.I'm not a big outboard guy but I do check it everyday because I enjoy it,I don't think it should be an issue to anyone. If theres something that dosen't intrest me I don't read it.Kmanns thread has been going for a long time but Doc just posted a Mobil Station on the water last week that was my favorite picture in the whole thread,so if there was a time frame put on this thread that pic may have not been posted.I think it comes down to some people do not have a intrest in this thread so there sick of seeing it everyday, but I bet if this thread was about pumps or signs there would be no complaining. So sometimes your dammed if you do or dammed if you don't.

On a positive note, I would like to add that there's enough outboard material to make an entire website...or even a book. A lot of ISPs have the tools to make a website with the software that comes along with your (AOL, Comcast, ...) subscription. You don't have to have mad programming skillz. Maybe that's the destiny that thread is meant to have.
I'd also like to comment that after a certain length of thread, something specific of interest is very hard to locate.
