I have to agree with you, Jim. This is also one of my most favorite threads to visit. Before this thread I just passed by these places without hardly a notice. Now I see things in a whole different light and it's amazing how you start LOOKING for old stations underneath the new modern looks they've undergone sometimes. Thankyou thermactor for the effort and for giving me some neck exercises while I driving!!........Dave

isnt it amazing how you can go by that place you have been by a million times and all the sudden realize"hey that was a gas....."its a great feeling!

found these in a barn, one on right has a 'shell' cap, seem to be all there.

Thanks for the great pics, guys! I appreciate the kind words, and your participation in this thread.

I too find it hard to keep my eyes on the road - I'm always looking over to the right or left, trying to figure out what various buildings were in a previous life. It also extends to fast food joints and car dealerships, too. It's a lot of fun taking pictures, and you never know what you might run across that's for sale. I highly recommend carrying a camera in your car on any trip.

And one more thing -- when I am taking pictures of buildings, and there is someone there (for example, the place is open for business), I always ask the person if they mind if I take a picture. For one thing, this is common courtesy, but it can also have the secondary effect of starting a really good conversation. You can learn a lot by talking to the owners, and sometimes you might make a friend or find out about something else to go and see. It's definitely worth the trouble.
