Here is an old program from the Base Ball team "HollyWood Stars" playing at Gilmore Field.
Don't confuse Gilmore Field, with Gilmore Stadium. They were two different venues.
Gilmore Field was constructed in 1938 to accommodate the Hollywood Stars, a minor league professional baseball team owned by Bing Crosby, Barbara Stanwyck, and Cecil B. DeMille.
Perhaps the most intimate baseball venue ever created in a metropolitan area (home plate was exactly 34 feet from the seats, first and third bases only 24 feet away), Gilmore Field taught a generation of Angelenos to love baseball, and created the climate which, in 1957, helped persuade the owners of the Dodgers to move west.
As the stadium was so intimate, Fans seated in the bleachers carried on running conversations with the outfielders – usually during the game.
Sparky Anderson – later a successful manager and broadcaster – played for the Stars and so did Chuck Connors, “The Rifleman.”
Jayne Mansfield was “Miss Hollywood Stars” of 1955
