I finishaed my A38 and installed compact clear 40 watt appliance bulbs. I think it was a big mistake as they are WAY TOO HOT. So today I got 60 watt compact flourscent bulbs and they are way cooler. I have also noticed some of the ad glass having warnings about what type of bulb to use.
Wondering what you guys use? Thanks for any help.

I see you are in CA. so cold might not be a problem, but in the north some compact fluorescents will not start good.

Blastmaster: I have done the same thing with those short appliance bulbs...way to hot for me. I use the compact fluorescent bulbs(curly que)for both the globe and face plates. They stay real cool and if you get the short ones, they are about the correct length. Another plus is they only use 14 watt on a 60 lumens. I also use a socket extender in the globe to put the bulb more in the center of the globe. Some people prefer the yellow cast of a soft white bulb, but I like the bright white of the CFL. I have my pumps in my basement so cold is not a factor for me.

Socket extenders are usually available in the electrical dept at most hardware stores.

Have you guys thought about using the 11 watt clear sign bulbs? They only draw 11 watts and put out plenty of light plus they are incandescent. You see these on movie theater marquee border chasers and on carnival rides.

I'm using the PHILIPS Energy Saving Bulb that I get from Costco. They use 13w and give the light output of a 60w regular bulb. I am sure its like the bulb K F H is using. I like the idea of the socket extenders for the globe. If I remember to look for them I will try one.
Pump lights up at Dusk and off at Daylight. They get warm but not HOT and I do not notice a jump in the electric bill.

I use the plastic bulb holders w/ either the pull chain switch of the ones with outlets to raise the bulb to center of globe.

The plastic extenders like DB mentioned are the type I'm talking about. They can be found at just about any hardware,Lowes,Home Depot store.
