This is a picture of me at a Richfield Station in Ione Washington. It was probably around 1967. I remember staying with my aunt and uncle very well. That was the time me and my brother got spankings for sprinkling nails on the stock car track after a race. Shortly after my uncle went out picking up the nails we recieved the Spanking. He probably was wondering what the *&^&&& he got himself into watching us.

No I was to busy getting spankings.LOL That was a very good memory up in that small town. Walking the rail road track, Fishing, riding bikes. Mom and Dad went on vacation and left me and my older brother there for a couple of weeks. I remember walking by the little jail and what a mystery it was to me, you know what bad guys must be in there. I still to this day have a bit of a fascination with jails. We have one built into our house and have had a few others in the past. I have a slider if anyone is interested. That would be a nice sign to have.

A slider in this part of the country is a White Castle hamburger and you know why they call them sliders, right! LOL I guess you mean a jail door right.

Rick; If you ever make it to Indiana you will want to add this to your list of places to visit. Only Rotary Jail still in operating condition. About an hour west of Indy. In use from 1882 - 1973. This wss the first of only 7 that were ever built. Chuck http://www.rotaryjailmuseum.org/http://www.b-levi.com/research/arch/whbrown/rotary/crawfordsville.phpForgot to mention... You will have to come to Indy or go up to Lafayette to get a "Slider".

Very cool picture! I love the stock car!
If in Indiana looking at jails, the one at Newport is good to see too - original, paint-flaking condition, built in the 1800s, and still in use until suprisingly recently (90s I think?). Pretty neat doors and latch mechanisms.

Rick, I have family friends that lives in Ione I sent them a link to your post and this is there reply: The little Jail he is refering to is the Animal control building that is no longer in use. The Gas station is now the Ione fitness center when the snow melts I will take a picture of it.

My uncle was Bob Haney and Diane is my moms sister. The building was on Houghton and was a small block or concrete building behind city hall. I think it was closed when I was there but uncle Bob told me he had spent a night or two in it. It would be neat seeing a picture of the station. Thanks Rick
