I saw what looked like a couple extra holes in the signs on his ebay listing. I do not know what someone having 29 of them has to do with anything.

Well, according to the law of supply and demand.... Although, I personally feel you should buy an item based upon how badly you want it and its merits, some folks get all p*&&y when they realize they don't have the only one known to mankind. As long as 'exclusivity' is not the marketing tactic used, it really shouldn't 'matter.'

Ebay has a feedback system, Oldgas only has people who are willing to publicly post what they know about a certain seller/items/new discoveries or whatever for their own personal reasons which in some way may help protect someone from getting burned on a transaction. That being said, the seller hasn't had the two 36x52 "gasoline and oil" signs in his possesion since 3 hours after the orignal listing time which did not include pictures, almost 8 hours later he "updates" and posts pics of signs he no longer owned or had possesion of. Anyway....He may have more, he may still be fishing for buyers, who knows ??? If you commit to buy the actual signs pictured you will not get them, you may get one "close to or similar to" what you are looking at which may or may not have more holes/hits etc etc and obviously that affects price to most sign buyers/collectors. Most of what has been posted makes sense to me but for someone without all the info it may not. Thats all Folks !

Here is the entire deal...and why I felt the need to update people...I got this deal rolling buy agreeing to buy them from rod. When we spoke he did not own them and had no interest in buying them from the man who did. I told him a healthy price based in his INFORMED description that they were NOS and no extra holes used. As it turns out when he finally went to get me one for an example, since I was not allowed to go see them even if I brought cash in hand...it turns out EVERY one of the 22 smalls and 7 large and 13 odd extras in ROUGH shape have the extra holes. I lowered the price...he agreed. I was scheduled to go to PA again to pick them up tomorrow (Tuesday) and as luck would have it I get a call from a friend, that ROD had called him trying to unload them to him, however the description was again VERY CLEAN no damage. My concern is that someone will get in their car and drive a long distance and have an issue. WITH ALL THAT SAID. The signs shown are the same ones he sent me the photo of, and they look good...BUT those are the best of the lot from the sounds of it, and he "saw one on ebay for $1007, and knows what he has."

ANOTHER reason you should have signs/stuff IN YOUR POSSESSION BEFORE ADVERTISING THEM FOR SALE.

Oldgas is NOT A PRIVATE FORUM, there are Several Spiders [search engines] picking up on key words. Type in ATLANTIC Signs in Google/Bling.

I have been around this site for over 14 years now and lately I get the feeling we are being used. Ever since the pickers showed up things have changed. Everybody seems to have 3-4 posts and you never hear from them again.

Maybe we need some rules, like "you must have over 50 posts before you can list something for sale."

We now have over 16,000 people who have registered, probably less than 800 who regularly come on, 15,000 who just use us or have used us.

By the way "what is the value of this (you fill in the word) I just found."

Jack, I agree with you 100%. I was thinking of all the former contributors who we never hear from now? In the past, they were on this site daily? I guess it's the nature of the beast? Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Thank you Neewbie, It Does make a difference when sellers are not being upfront and honest in their descriptions. Your info is much appreciated.

Jack hit the nail right on the head. DB you are right on with the comment about selling when it is yours in hand, not a broker or going to own something.

I have seen alot of this lately here on OG and other places as well. You get contacted or contact someone on an item. That (SELLER) gives you a description and an asking price. You negotiate only to be told later the deal fell through BECAUSE they never owned it and it had been sold already! WHAT?!?!? Never seen this type of business practice until recently...

Mainly focused on Oilzum, Jenney, Harris Oil items & original paint gas pumps.

eric, it Speculative buying/selling. Brokering a deal [Realtor sells property they DON'T own, car salesmen sells cars they DON'T own].

NEEDS to be a Rule here that you may ONLY LIST A SIGN/ITEM FOR SALE THAT IS IN YOUR POSSESSION.

While I was on vacation last week, I had a chance to think about selling issues here on Oldgas.com. The collecting world has changed, and we can change the way we operate to deal with difficulties that come up regularly. I'm working on the details of changes that will be enabled soon.

Thanks for the suggestions here in discussions on the forum and via PM and email. I'm sorry to say I'm running into technical/legal problems with the remote control electric shock module that one of you suggested for rule violators. wink
