One of these sold last week for $2700, and now another is showing up.... also from Wisconsin. Both the one pictured below and one sold last week are suspected fakes. I consulted with 3 other US shield sign collectors, that have more experience than myself, to confirm my suspicions before posting. For those of you that know him Jake B. was one those experts.

"Soft embossed font", embossed border is too thin, and bottom mounting hole is located to close to the border. Additional "evidence" there is no area on the back that would have been protected from the weather if mounted on a pole. Also, to my knowledge the backs of AZ shields were either left white or painted silver...not black. Those signs that were painted were done so while in service and thus leaving a very distinctive pole mark on the back.

$2700 a lot of money to through at an embossed piece of steel, so thought I would get the word out.

Are these the ones Jake makes

This is the type usually repopped (including Jake's) "Hard pressed font", bottom mounting hole is higher than the other fake I posted and has correct embossing around the border of the shield. Also note the "closed S" in which the embossing touches from the tail to the middle of the S, which has been typical on most repops.
