Always hurts to loose a good advertising piece in such a manner. Thought I had even got a great deal on it, so even if/when I get insurance or money refunded from the seller it will still sting.

It always pains me to see a piece of advertising lost, be it gas/oil or any piece that has survived a half a century or more, only to be destroyed in a few days in shipping due to poor packing. I've had my fair share of heartache....feel your pain.

That sucks! If your keeping the clock you could make a new glass front. I did that recently with that same model clock, I personalized it for my father and gave it to him as a present. That way it's not going to waste. If I had to do it over I would try to make the letters light up better though! Appreciate all the comments, I think many, if not most of us have been a victim to poorly boxed valuables. Glass (globes) advertising is perhaps the most dreaded of all damaged goods, because there is no value left when shattered. A sign that gets bent at least retains a little "barn hanger" value.
BUT...Paul you just made my day, that is a great idea! If, or when, the seller and I settle the insurance claim I am going to clean it up and give that a try! I am leaving it in the original box with shipping materials in case the postal service asks for more pics or whatever.
Again...great idea, thank you much for sharing.

Aaron, glad to be of help!
If you end up keeping the clock after the insurance is all done, pm or call me. I have vectorized graphic files for the glass and also the clock face so that a sign shop can cut you translucent vinyl or paint stencils, depending on your approach. I can just send you those in an email. I had to do both the glass and face, not sure if your clock face is damaged too. Painting the glass was kind of tricky, took me a few tries, just using vinyl on the inside of the glass would probably work too and actually be a lot easier.
