I did this once in the 70's. The oil did not absorb fast and it rained. The oil came out of the deep hole and flowed down hill to my neighbors garden.

I remember my Dad doing this in the 60's, in the middle of my Moms garden, in the fall, she discovered it in the spring . . . he never did it again!

We used this method on our farm but used sand instead. It was good for oiling shovels and garden tools by simply shoving them into the oily sand. It worked great. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Many a rural golf course in Western Canada had sand "greens" which were essentially used oil soaked sand boxes. Win win for the garage stations. Never used them as I was a grass green only guy!

Late 60s, early 70s changing oil with dad we would poor it out behind the garage in suburban Detroit area. 1/4 mile from the lake : )
