History of nozzles:

If you were purchasing a pump from the pump company you could specify a number of things having to do with the nozzle. Most companies usually only offered one nozzle, with a few options (a straight or flex spout), but some companies like 1940-50s Bennetts, they offered the choice of sometimes three different nozzles from three different mfg. with the same options listed above.

But, most new pumps were purchased from local petroleum equipment dealers. They usually represented one or two different pump companies and out in the warehouse they stocked a number of pumps. If you purchased a pump from them, you got what was on the pump when the crate was opened.

Like everything else that is used constintly, the nozzle wore out. You didn't have time to call the pump company, or the local supplier, you needed to keep on pumping gas. So you went to a shelf in your garage and got a box that contained a rebuilt nozzle and replaced the broken one on the pump. This replacement nozzle was supplied on an consignment basis by a person who had a small business of rebuilding nozzles. He usually made his round once a month, checking to see if you had used one of his nozzles, and if you had, he replaced it and charged you for the one you used. He took your broken one back to the shop and rebuilt it for the next customer.

No particular attention was made as to what nozzle was put on the end of the hose, it just needed to pump gas, so this is why a nozzle marked Gilbarco might be found on a Wayne pump.

And since nozzles wore out all the time, it is a million to one any pump found today has the original nozzle on it, especially if it is found on a farm.

I have a nozzle section on my website. I never finished it, just too many other things to do, but I believe you can see the nozzle that was pictured in the original factory literature for your pump.

if the nozzle is too long to fit in the reciever, you can trim an inch or so off of the tip. take your time and nobody will know...cggas

Make sure the nozzle you get has a slot cut out near the hose inlet to go over the piece in the nozzle receiver on your pump.
