Trent, none of those are valid arguments. Plain and simple it was the wrong city and auction for that car. We had four cars in the auction, those vehicles were only bid up to about 30% of the reserves we had in place. Our reserves were realistic.
I had advised my friend to buy the Charger 500. I know the owner of the shop that the car was restored at the owner of the car at the time was into the car for a little over $400,000.00. Car was restored using nos and original parts only. All parts are correct part numbers and date codes. All assembly line and inspection paint dabs and markings and on the car. The 2.6 points it lost were for the wrong date code alternator fan belt and side door cat whiskers.
Car was previously sold for more then the $220,000.00 you've listed above.
Reserve wasn't met on the car and bidding stalled...auctioneer revealed the reserve and asked if we would bid against ourselves to meet the reserve.
Restorations and cars of this caliber are recession and economy proof. Better than keeping your money in the bank. Color doesn't hurt it because Chrysler released the high impact colors (Plum Crazy, Hemi Orange, Lime Green, Tor Red ect...) in 1970.
Here's another one we sold off earlier this year. 1967 Corvette Roadster 435hp, 427cid, 68,000 original miles. This was one of my favorite cars, a pleasure to drive.
