I found this on eBay for pretty cheap and thought it was interesting. I can't find any info on it other than it was framed anytime from 1960-1981. Anyone know anything about these old decals?

Probably designed to mount to the inside of a glass window of a car.

Then it would read correctly.

Later . . .

If this was designed for the inside of a car window the letters would be in the correct order, BUT the lettering would be reversed.

I also noticed its trademarked, which is kinda odd. I wonder if it is a legit sticker

I would guess later timeframe. Maybe a band or skater related?

Front end of a racecar...when approaching traffic from the rear the logo is is visible in the mirror of the lead car. That's my guess.

I'm not sure of the origin of the decal, but Gulf was indeed parodied in the early 1980s:

The adhesive is on the back of the posted item - and transparent. This is a 'water slide' decal.

When applied to the inside surface of the glass, the lettering is correct.

Later . . .

I'm very puzzled by this Gulf sticker. If it was a reversed image for being viewed in a rear-view mirror or mounted inside a car window, the "G" would have it's open side toward the other letters, not away. And the "f" would have it's top pointing away from the other letters, not toward. View the image in the original post in a mirror. Weird.

I agree that's its very weird. I only paid $28 for it already framed, and its very unique so I had to snag it lol.

And, to further complicate the "how was it used" or "what's it for" question...please note that the small "R" registration "bug" reads 100% correctly on this item as it is currently displayed. This could mean this decal or whatever it is is now being shown as it was originally designed (with all the large type reversed or backward, or whatever). The whole thing is still screwy, but I couldn't help noticing that the "R" bug reads right. John

Maybe it was a prototype that got made and then realized that they needed to correct it before the final product.

I got it...I got it, guys. The joke's on us. This fluG thing is simply something the original poster dalfin 12 created using artificial intelligence to drive us all nuts. It doesn't really exist! Hey, nice going, dalfin 12. Very clever. You really had us going. laugh John
